Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease is a term often used to describe certain changes within spinal discs, but it’s important to clarify that it’s not truly a disease. Instead, it’s a general term for alterations that can occur within the spinal discs. While this condition can affect any part of the spine, it most commonly affects the cervical and lumbar regions. Additionally, despite the term “degenerative,” it does not always get worse with time. In fact, the back pain associated with degenerative disc “disease” often improves over time, as discs naturally undergo changes.

Causes of Degenerative Disc

Degenerative disc can be attributed to various factors, including the loss of disc fluid, which reduces friction and enhances spinal cord flexibility. As disc fluid decreases, discs can become narrower and thinner. Tiny cracks and tears on the disc’s outer layer (annulus) or capsule can also contribute to the condition, potentially leading to disc bulging or fragmentation. Risk factors include age and injuries from falls or accidents.

Recognizing Symptoms

Various symptoms may indicate degenerative disc condition, such as lower back pain that worsens when sitting, bending, lifting, or twisting.

Stem Cell Therapy for Degenerative Disc Condition

Exciting breakthroughs in stem cell research offer promising avenues for managing degenerative disc conditions. Stem cell therapy is now available and can potentially reverse the aging process that affects discs. Stem cells work in two ways: preventing further degeneration and potentially renewing the affected disc. Transplanted stem cells have the remarkable ability to transform into disc cells, regenerating new disc tissue and reversing damage.

Protocol

Direct injection of cord tissue-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into the affected disc. This minimally invasive procedure takes approximately 45 minutes, with minimal downtime. Patients typically return home just two days following their scheduled appointment.

Treatment Objectives

Our primary goal is to significantly reduce chronic low-grade inflammation for an extended period. Stem cells possess a unique property that draws them to areas of inflammation in the body. Research has demonstrated that stem cells can regenerate damaged or diseased discs, reduce inflammation, and modulate the immune system, promoting better health and an enhanced quality of life.

For individuals suffering from back pain, Stem Cell Treatment can lead to a reduction in pain and distressing symptoms, stabilize the condition, and markedly improve their quality of life.
